David E. (D.E.) Navarro is an author, poet, essayist, editor, and poet-philosopher of the pure land school of haiku; he is a biblical research teacher and minister, and clinical research medical writer/editor in Tucson, Arizona USA. He is a husband, father, mentor, and friend. He Founded NavWorks Press™ and the Pure Land School of Haiku™; he originated the We Write Poetry™ forums and Pride in Poetry Prize™ and publication series. He is the Secretary of the Board of the Arizona State Poetry Society and is involved in many poetry circles, groups, societies, and organizations.
His love of poetry and the writing arts began at age 8 as a poor boy on the Southside of inner city Chicago. His dad's hard work brought the family out of poverty and they moved to the woods and wilds of rural Crown Point, Indiana when he was 10. There he became a true nature's child. He went on to study English at Purdue University, served 10 years through 3 conflicts in the US Air Force, moved around and lived in 14 US states and 1 European country (England), and recently settled in Tucson, AZ. He graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies (arts & humanities) with Purdue University and also has degrees in Communications and Theology.
As a multi-disciplined, diverse, eclectic, well-connected author and poet, DE (pronounced "dee - ee") utilizes all his poetry and writing connections to organize poetry and writing events, including performances, readings, contests, workshops, publications, open mics, and focus groups.
